Support of Loving-kindness Meditation is written by Ven. Pannyavaro. Loving-kindness meditation can be used to complement the more demanding Vipassana practice once the meditator has mastered the principles of Vipassana meditation. While this is a change in meditation modes to a concentration-based practice, it has the benefit of uplifting and sweetening the mind and assisting meditators in coping with negative emotions that they may not be able to deal with in their Vipassana practice.
