The Way It Is is written by Ven. Ajahn Sumedho. This book is about Ajahn Sumedho's teachings for persons who are familiar with Theravada Buddhism's norms and have some meditation experience. The majority of the chapters were edited from discourses given during lay retreats for Ajahn Sumedho's monastic disciples, therefore they need some attention and should be read in order.
In many of these speeches, Ajahn Sumedho discusses the Buddhist concept of 'not-self. He believes that this is the Buddha's way of referring to the experience of Ultimate Reality that many religions strive for. Ajahn Sumedho regularly teaches the Dependent Origination paticca-samuppada based on the anatta approach during monastic retreats. The Dependent Origination examines the method by which pain develops.
