The Path of Freedom - Vimuttimagga is written by Arahant Upatissa. The book is organized in accordance with the traditional Buddhist classification of the road into three stages: virtue, concentration, and wisdom, with freedom as the final goal. The Vimuttimagga is thought to have served as a model for Buddhaghosha when he wrote his magnum opus, the Visuddhimagga, several centuries later.
Because of its largely practical emphasis, the older work has a leaner style and a more vibrant feeling of urgency.
