Thai-Cambodian Culture - Relationship through Arts is written by Ms. Charuwan Chareonla. Thailand and Cambodia are extremely close neighbors sharing borders and cultural ties. The Thai people received and assimilated certain traditional Cambodian arts and culture.
The Khmer native language provided the basis for the pre-Thai scripts and spoken words. The Thai art of the Lopburi period reflects the growth of Cambodian arts (11th to 15th century A.D.) As a result of the Khmer occupation, art from this period is recognized locally as Khmer art, which incorporates Mahayana aspects, as in the Sri-Vijaya school of painting. This school of Buddhist art represents the final stage of Buddhist art's development in Thailand prior to the Thai people's rise to power in the territory that is now known as Thailand.
