Matrceta's Hymn to the Buddha is translated by Ven. S. Dhammika. Mtrceta, a first-century Indian poet, wrote the Satpncsatka in English. These lovely compositions are equal in beauty to heavenly flowers and rival in dignity to the towering peaks of a mountain, writes I-tsing, a Chinese pilgrim who traveled through India in the 7th century AD. As a result, all hymn writers in India copy his style, and he is regarded as the founder of writing. Even men like Asanga and Vasubandhu, Bodhisattvas, admired him much.
