MASK: Anthropology on the Sinhalese Belief System is written by Dr. David Blundell. This book is a reflection of it — In his endeavor to understand and render the Sinhalese belief system, Dr. David Blundell has gone one step farther than other sociocultural anthropologists. His novel technique is centered on involving those who are traditionally considered study subjects in the investigative process. Three men's lives are used to explore the three components of the Sinhalese belief system: Theravada Buddhism, cults of deities, and exorcism. Each of the three subsystems has a significant duty to play: headmonk of a village temple, main official of a shrine, and exorcist.
