Buddhist Pilgrimage is written by Chan Khool San. Chan Khoon San was born in Penang on August 8, 1941, and obtained his early education there. In 1960, he graduated from the sixth form and enrolled in the Malayan Teachers College at Brinsford Lodge in the United Kingdom, where he received two years of teacher training. He taught for a short time after finishing school, from 1964 to 1967.
He enrolled in the University of Malaya in 1968 and graduated in 1971 with a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Chemistry. He worked as a Research Chemist for a prominent plantation company from 1971 until his retirement in 1996.
