Buddhist Ceremonies and Ritual of Sri Lanka is written by A.G.S. Kariyawasam. The goal of this research is to bring attention to this often-overlooked aspect of popular Buddhism. Though the study focuses on Buddhism in Sri Lanka, the same core set of rites and ceremonies may be found in other Theravada Buddhist countries, such as Burma and Thailand, with slight modifications. I also hope that this survey will show that devotional expressions of Buddhist piety are required if Buddhism is to remain as a lively and vibrant force in the daily lives of its adherents at the popular level.
